Overbalanced and underworked

It’s 2007 (Happy New Year), I’ve been off work and at home with my son for almost 2 weeks straight, and well, I’m ready to get back to work.  And while I feel a little bit guilty admitting this (I can’t get away from it, my WMAG friends), it’s true.

I’ve had a great vacation, no doubt.  For one, I got to witness some of my son’s new tricks first-hand (waving and finger foods are fun!) instead of having my nanny call to tell me.  But, during my time off, I think I put on “real” makeup (this means eyeliner, not concealer) a total of 3 times in 14 days, got dressed (this means something other than sweats) only about 60% of the time and found that my only real adult conversation centered around what Dolly Parton wore to the Kennedy Center awards (a snug white dress).

This Self-Made Mom is nothing without her Supernova mascara and a good gossip session over bad office coffee! I miss my big-girl all grown up purse and it’s time I eat something other than PB&J for lunch.

So tomorrow when the clouds rise (I live in Chicago, folks), and I get out of the shower, I will relish putting on my constricting tights and uncomfortable heels. I must get some balance back in my life.

I’m compelled to say you should not feel guilty for missing the grownup/professional part of your daily life! It’s nice to take a break from it, but normal and perfectly fine to want to get it back. Myself, I was dreading leaving my girl today. But seeing all my pals at work and talking like a grownup again, I don’t feel bad at all.

I did feel a little sad this morning leaving the little mn, but all is well.
