My trip to the spa was terrific (blackheads be gone!) and I had a great time with my friends. But, unfortunately, my trip ended up on a bit of a downer. It occurred to me today on my flight home that I will lose my hard-fought elite flyer status on United Airlines in just 16 days. This situation is the direct result of my reduction in business travel since I became pregnant and went back to work. Even though I went all the way to China when pregnant, I followed my doctors advice to stay close to home after the 34-week mark. Then, I gave birth and didn’t leave a 10-square mile radius for longer than I care to discuss.Â
Upon going back to work, though, I made a conscious decision – I cannot travel as much for my job now that I have a kid. I’ll work it out with my team to handle local clients or do day trips. Overnights when absolutely necessary.  The outcome? Less miles, and in two weeks, less legroom. What’s a spoiled traveler to do?  I already know. The smile on my son’s face when I’m there in the morning is worth having my knees jab the seat in front of me. Every time. Except of course, if I have to go back to China.

Just found your blog and I could not agree more with this
post. I too was a preferred customer for United, Starwood,
and Hertz with all the added bonuses. However since the
birth of my daughter in Sept I will gladly forgo the little
extras for a few hours more with my daughter. After all
she is only little once and I am sure these companies will
have elite programs again when and if I do decide to travel
like I used to.
