Read it yourself: What I didn’t have time to blog this week

Everytime I see something interesting that I think I want to blog about I clip it and store it in this neat little book I have.  Then something weird happens to me and I have to post about that instead.  So below are links and mentions of some things I read that I would have liked to blog about but didn’t have time to.  I’ll give you the lead sentence, you take it from there (sorry, I just realized some of these links are probably expired by now).  Anyway, hope you can enjoy at least the “free preview.”

  • “Winning Women Back” – If you don’t get the free HR magazine, Workforce Management, I suggest you subscribe for it, even for just this month, so you can read the great story about how the financial institution Lehman Bros. is redefining its recruitment strategies and developing programs to attract female executives who have left the workforce. Now we just have to get all the rest of the world to follow.
  • “Guides to Negotiation” – the New York Times wrote up reviews of some new books on the art of negotating.  With some good examples of how you can use some of the negotiation skills mentioned with your family, these are probably good reads to get you a raise and get your kid to drink his milk.
  • “Chick Humor” – the May issue of Vanity Fair had a cute little blurb about a new book by author Sloane Tanen called “Hatched.”  It’s got illustrations of chickens pretending to be new mothers raising little chickies.  Yes, I just said chickens pretending to be new mothers.  It looks funny, OK?
  • “Rhymes for today’s times” - my MIL does it again and sends me a really funny article about how outdated today’s nursery rhymes really are. I didn’t realize it until the author, Susan Ager, wrote the word “mulberry bush.”
  • “How Blogging Can Help You Get a New Job” – Apparently having a blog not only gives you a place to rant about your feelings, but it also is a great tool to attract potential recruiters for jobs. Dear boss, this is not the reason I have a blog.
