In the six short months (doesn’t it feel like forever?) that I’ve had this blog, I’ve been pinged a few times for various random things. But I haven’t been pitched to enough to vent about it nor have I had too many e-mails clogging my inbox that I didn’t notice a very important one. (I think this is a good thing?)
This is not to say I haven’t had my share of cool experiences as a blogger. I’ve been to L.A. where I met the cast of a TV show and more importantly, some other great bloggers. I’ve landed my own online column where I get to write semi-professionally.  This blog has definitely opened up some neat opportunities for me and it’s great to get some free loot once in awhile. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like like the free sh**. Everybody likes free sh**.
But that ‘aint why I’m blogging. Mainly, I started this blog to have a place to vent about going back to work after baby and rekindle the creative part of my brain that used to write feature stories for my college newspaper. (My beat? Women’s Gymnastics. But I digress.) A blog was a perfect outlet for these pent-up feelings. And when I started my blogging madness I always thought if people read it, great. If not, that is fine too. But my best-blog-case-scenario is if I can connect with others like me. To see if there are people out there who think how I do. (Okay, this time I am lying. I’m blogging to see if anyone else besides my parents think I’m funny.)
And then I got the perfect pitch. A chance to meet some people like me and some business execs interested in people like me. (Yes, there is a point buried here somewhere in this post.) Let me explain. Last month, I got an e-mail from a nice woman who works at Google.  She found my site (how do you folks find me??) and asked if I would join some other local Chicago mom bloggers to sit on a “tech-savvy mom” panel tomorrow at the Chicago Google office. Did she say Google? Chicago-area Mom Bloggers? Free lunch? It was a solicitation I couldn’t resist.
The event, dubbed, “Mothers Know Tech” features the latest “Moms are Tech-Savvy” research presented by Google’s Consumer Package Goods executives and industry know-hows. Not only will the top ad and CPG execs from around the Chicagoland area be in attendance, but so will some very esteemed local mom bloggers (Amy from Ladybug Picnic, Steph from Adventures in Babywearing, and MJ from Want Sugar) and we’ll all be sitting together on a “Mom Panel” to help give some real life examples of techy-mom behavior. Again, not sure how I fit in here, but I guess having a blog makes me somewhat hip, so be it. I’m excited.
I’ll also be “liveblogging” tomorrow from the event (thank you for the tip, Beth!) to give you all real-time insights into the mom-tech market. Getting excited yet? Well don’t get your panties in a bunch because you’ll have to wait one more day for me to release the secrets I learn. And in the meantime, I have to clean out my inbox and respond to an e-mail I got about trying out a new bra. Do these folks know I’m seriously flat-chested? Better question- does that make it a good pitch?
Talk to you all tomorrow from Google!
