You are absolutely right. The workplace should be more flexible for moms/parents. I have been working fulltime while parenting for 26 years and I feel like I can contribute to bettering the world for other women and my daughters by continually moving towards more and more flex time. I'm fortunate to have a company and director who is supportive in this.
The new buzz is that there will be a shortage of workers as the baby boomers retire so maybe this will be a good opportunity for women to re-enter the workforce.

I read the article but missed the show - thanks for posting about it. I've thought about this issue a lot - for years, I had one of those finance careers (not Wall Street, but close) that had no flexibility at all. I found a way to leave at 5pm every day and then work from home, but this was rare and I know never much appreciated by the boys I worked with. The thing is, it was tough to do my job without being in the office - I knew this and they knew this. So the choice I made is to leave that career. I think yes, we should push hard for employers to change and most jobs can probably have more flexibility - work from home one day a week, etc. But I also worry that there are certain careers that are much tougher to be flexible about and are we going to see less and less moms in those areas over time.
