So a higher-up at work stopped by yesterday to tell me that I’m moving offices some time in the next few weeks. Normally, this would have brought on intense annoyance. I hate moving. I hate packing, and especially hate unpacking. With 3 1/2 years of clutter around me, I really don’t feel like coming in on a day off (which, of course, is how most moves take place) to shlep my crap down the hall just because someone said “we’re running out of space and Sally has to work on the floor.” I mean, seriously, can’t I get a better excuse here?
But instead of annoyance I received the message with a sly grin. Why, you ask? Well, well! It’s because I’m trading my stylish closet office for a grand palace with windows. Having an interior office is such a tease. Yes, I have a place where I can shut the door on sick coworkers, but I am constantly reminded that I haven’t quite achieved greatness a window view yet.
A room with no view.
Which brings out a bigger issue. Why do windows make me giddy with glee? Could it be my proposed new view of Chicago’s fine south side?
I’m so important with my new bad-ass view.
Or the fact that I get to make the movers bring me my file cabinets which shhh… aren’t really filled with anything important after all?
Three years of work and all I have to show are some lousy trash bags.
Oh, how I’m loving moving up in the world.Â

Congrats, that’s great!
That is great. I have an office with a view of a parking lot (first floor windows aren’t the same). I get to watch people that think no one sees them do weird things, like pick their noses and check their flies. Jealous, right?
Score! Fabulous view.
Congrats on “movin’ on up!” What an awesome view!
I just moved to a window office a few weeks ago and I’ve been wanting to post about it. It is sooooo nice to have a window.
Yeah, sadly I’ve been at my company six years and I don’t seem to have too many high priority uh files. (I recognize the Target bag!)
Fabulous! I never got to the window when my company closed up my office and sent us home (I now have a view of my pesky neighbors taking out the trash). Quite boring in relation to your view!
Congrats! My last job I had an interior office which bordered the conference room and the air conditioning room on the other side. Not so quiet and always sounded like it was raining. Looking outside is a great alternative to never knowing if it’s light or dark out!
How fantastic! I left a job where I had my own office and now have to share my space with someone else. Which sucks when you are trying to skive off and blog and email friends!!!
When I taught high school, my classroom did not have windows and I longed for some sunlight during those long hours. The only bonus was that wandering teenage minds couldn’t stare blankly at the snow or rain falling outside. Congrats on your move to the “sunny” side of the street.
