This week’s “I’m sorry” list goes to…

by selfmademom on August 2, 2007 · 6 comments

Personal life and work-life are colliding unhappily this week causing me to have to say the dreaded “I’m sorry” more than I care to.  An exhaustive list:

  1. Mom: I’m sorry you are so exhausted from filling in for my nanny all week.
  2. Co-worker: I’m sorry I don’t work on Wednesdays or Fridays, making it difficult to schedule conference calls.
  3. Boss: I’m sorry I can’t go on a last minute business trip because I already had a vacation planned.
  4. Client: I’m sorry I wasn’t available 100% yesterday to follow up on work due to my day off.
  5. Friend: I’m sorry I couldn’t make your daughter’s birthday party due to prior networking commitments.
  6. Networking contact: I’m sorry I had to leave our lunch early (that I missed my friend’s daughter’s birthday party for) due to work commitments.
  7. Son: I’m sorry I had to miss our mommy-and-me class yesterday due to a networking lunch (that I skipped my friend’s daughter’s birthday party for that ended early due to work commitments).
  8. Husband: I’m sorry I’ve been MIA this week working (and, ahem, blogging.)

I clearly have too many plans.  From now on, I’m going to try to keep my “I’m sorry” list to under 5.

Ahhhh! I could have written a similar post yesterday. Sometimes its so hard to just let it go and do the best you can because you feel like you aren’t doing anything really well.

I’m glad you got it off your chest (isn’t blogging cathartic?) and I wish you a few quite moments alone for yourself, a nice cup of tea, and a good night’s rest. Tomorrow is another day :-)

I know this woman at work whose “I’m sorry” list in any given week would be about 546 items long. She LITERALLY says “I’m sorry” like most people say “uh” or “like.” It’s weird.

But seriously, you’ve done enough apologizing this week. Take a break. If need be, start telling people to “Get over it” instead.
