I’m full of empty threats about quitting my job because I can’t find a decent nanny. But sometimes things happen that bring me back to earth about why I need to work.Â
For one, if I stayed home, I’d be forced to learn how to wrap birthday presents, as I wouldn’t be able to play the “I didn’t have time, I was in the office all day that’s why your kid’s present looks like crap” card.
Not just a nanny flunkie, but a wrapping flunkie as well.
And, I would have no reason to be one of the new contributors to one of my favorite working mom websites- Mommy Track’d! Check out my post this week about how much I love going to work on Mondays. That is, when I have a stable child care situation. (Ok, I’ve got to stop bitching about the nanny situation. Soon, I promise.)

I am so glad you posted this picture. One, because it is so dang funny. Two, because I thought I was the ONLY one who wrapped like that. Seriously, I can’t even do gift bags with the tissue and make them look nice. Ugh!
I can definitely relate, although I have a bad tendency to freak out on Sunday nights about all the stuff I have to accomplish during the week. But quite honestly it is so nice to walk in my office and be able to check my e-mail and sip on a cup of coffee without two little ones grabbing me, yelling, or fighting over what cartoon to show. (I mean educational show…cough.)
My husband works a lot of Saturdays and by the time he gets home I am often ready to pull my hair out!
I hear you on the craziness of weekends. Add another kid to the mix and it’s crazy! Congrats on the Mommy Trackd article, love that site
LOL I’m so with you. Also: working is also a handy excuse for not cleaning.
I thought about quitting a couple weeks ago, and decided not to
because I wanted to get a cleaning lady! I figure if I were a
SAHM, I would have to be the cleaning lady.
Congrats on the writing gig – loved the article. i hate Mondays – but that is b/c it seems to be the worst meeting day out of my week. Which means only one thing – no time to fill up coffee or go to the bathroom.
And I can give you tips on wrapping. It is very easy. Go to the gift wrap department.
Congrats on the Mommy Track’d gig. That’s great!
So true. So many many of my excuses (sorry, can’t be the room parent, sorry, can’t do afternoon
carpool) would go out the window. My kids actually wrapped the most recent b-day present, so there
goes that excuse.
