It’s over, part II

A friend we hadn’t seen in awhile asked my husband and I the ubiquitous Labor Day question earlier this evening:

So what did you do this summer?

I had no good answer.

Uh, I was busy with work.  My husband was busy with work.  I got away a couple of weekends.  My nanny quit.  My son started walking and stuff.  Uhm, we’re boring.

I have no idea what happened this summer. (I know, I can re-read my blog, but that sounds completely lame.)

And now it’s over.

My parents warned me that life goes by too fast and that your kids grow up too fast and you need to savor the moment because everything goes too fast.

And that’s what happened this summer.  I moved too fast. I was too busy.  Too tired.  Too stressed out.  I  tried to slow down, but I don’t think it worked that well.  I know I’m not alone in this, but it doesn’t make me feel better.  And while my summer wasn’t bad by any stretch, it also didn’t really feel like it was any different from January, except that I wore flip flops instead of Ugg boots.

And now it’s over.

Could my parents possibly be right?

Is it already almost time to break out the shearling?

Oh yeah, today has a new vibe – I’m feeling it.

My once swift daily commute is congested.

My clients actually have the expectation that work will be done. Have they no mercy?

Good bye summer. It was fun while it lasted…

Oh, I know. I hate the ‘it’s over’ thing. But I refuse to admit it — Summer is not
officially over for three more weeks!

I can’t believe how quickly it has gone. We had such big plans for this summer – hitting the lake every other weekend, getting the boys out more. Now that I think about it, we’ve only been three times….

Man.

Funny, I was thinking a lot about this last night.

After I tucked my kids to bed (9 and 10) I realized how they have grown, and grown fast. In those times I was mostly very busy just trying to keep my head above water. They are great kids and but last night I wondered, would they have been a lot better had a not been too rushed most of the time?

Time flies fast – next thing we know it’ll be Christmas (and yes, it’s just September right now)!

I like your blog. and i bet i would be even worse at blogging, so therefore I live vicariously through others
others.. Anyway- not related to this post.
What I did with my summer. oh geez. terrible. my answer would be something like this
“I left my job of nearly 3 years for a new exciting opportunity that hasn’t turned out to be anything b
but a big disappointment and pain in the ass.”
” Four days before I started that job, I found out my
husband had been having an affair for nearly 5 months our son was 3 mths when this all started.]
I kicked him out, over the course of a few daysmet and hired a lawyer. ”
” enjoyed blissful days on the beach
beach with my gorgeous baby boy, my mother moved in to help out; and i bought a condo.”
2007 will not go down as my year, so this is the one year i am thankful that summer is almost over…
