In case you care to know how I really feel about the words “balance” and “synergy,” herewith a link to my latest post up on Mommy Track’d.
Have any you want to add to the list?

OK, so it’s not a Mommy buzzword, but a corporate one that I REALLY hate!! I hate when people use the word “download” when talking about giving information to another person verbally. I HATE THAT!!! Also the word “ping” like… I’ll ping you about that later. Maybe it’s just in my industry (IT) but those really bug the heck out of me, and thank you for letting me get off that my chest!
People actually say “I’ll ping you” ? WTF? That’s messed up.
“Bandwidth” makes my skin crawl.
Ugh, even before I read your post I just figured out why I’m so squeemy about a new boss, she has no sense
of humor and totally uses the word synergy and means it, lord save me while I download all over my desk.
I’m too lazy to sign in right now over yonder at Mommytrackd, but let me just
run this up the flagpole while I achieve the zen of work-life balance. Oh wait, I need
to punch up that wording a bit, make it more punchy (do other marketing people use that term? Am I totally
behind the times?)
I’ve been asked “what’s your bandwidth look like this afternoon.” Hate that!
Ok, this is making me laugh. I can’t stand “let’s talk offline” or “let’s sync” – but I totally use them even though I hate them.
ping is a great one. Still don’t know what that means, but I hear it all the time.
Where I work, management doesn’t use the term “part-time.” It’s “reduced hours schedule.” Whatevs.
Here are a few motherhood ones that get under my skin:
“tummy time”
“teachable moment”
Balance doesn’t get to me as much because at least it’s a word in its own right, not some cutesy, coined catchphrase. But it *is over-used. On the other hand, I think it IS important for moms to find balance in their lives, and so far I haven’t found a better word for it (well, my blog used to be called “Equilibrium”, but that was just an annoyingly large mouthful!)
You know what phrase I really hate…is “mommy blogger”. It just feels so dismissive or something of mothers who have blogs. I know a lot of moms with blogs use it, but I have never been able to bring myself to call myself a “mommy blogger”. I’m a mother. I have a blog. I guess ‘mom blogger’ is as far as I’ll go
