The cat’s out of the proverbial bag, or I should say, office.
No, I’m not pregnant.
I quit my job.
Last day’s next Thursday.
I don’t have another job. I’m going to test out the waters of being an SAHM for awhile and see how it goes. I mean, I do have a few things in the fire, of course, but not going to commit to anything quite yet.
I’ve been nervous to tell you because I love my working mom compadres out there, but this is just something I needed to do personally. The tug ‘o war finally gave in and it gave in the direction of my family.
Feel free to call me ”off-ramped” or “decelerated” or whatever. Per usual, I won’t stick to the typical labels.
And, I’ll still be here blogging, but with a different point of view.
I hope you’ll all stay with me as I set forth on my new adventure.
Yours truly,
Self-Made Mom (a.k.a. working mom flunkie)

Congrats! Any big life change that you initiate and WANT to do is a huge positive in my book. Truly.
And like the pollsters last night with the primary, I was wrong – definitely thought we’d be hearing about another little one:)

Congrats…I’m excited to see your new excerps re: SAHMiness. It’s a big adjustment but one you can certainly get used to. I hope you love it. Can’t wait to see you in the parking lot. I hope we make a date for the boys soon. MM
Good luck on your new adventure! I look forward to hearing all about your career shift.
Oh wow- what an exciting time for you! I hope all goes well in the meantime!

Definitely thought you had a bun cooking! Cool for you – I’m sure you won’t regret the choice and will enjoy yourself for however long you stay home.
I will miss reading your works. Have fun with the baby.
I wish you and the family a healthy and happy new year.
Your Childproofer
Hey Arvey- I’m still gonna be blogging here, but my gates do need fixing!
Congratulations! It’s most certainly an adjustment, but I’m sure you’ll find your way. Can’t wait to read about your new adventures.
PS – this doesn’t make you a working mom “flunkie.” Far from it. Good luck!
Congrats! It is definitely a big decision, one I don’t know if I could make at this point. Wishing you all the best, and exctied to hear about things from a new perspective.
Good for you! I wondered if that might be what was in the works (possibly just because I’ve been thinking about that myself, though right now it’s not a feasible choice for me and my family).
Congratulations and we look forward to hearing more about this phase of your life!
Congratulations!! I envy you!
Congratulations!
I can guarantee you won’t regret spending more time with your family. And you can “always” go back to work. You have to be true to your heart and do what is best for you! I keep cutting back further and further on actual in office time and actually am pondering trying to totally telecommute this summer.
Looking forward to hearing about your adjustment. Congrats again!
Congrats on the job change!!! I am sure it will be a rewarding change.
I will still be following the blog.
Congrats. Can’t wait to read about your new adventures!!
Yay! Enjoy your time at home — it’ll take you a bit really, truly sink your teeth into the bliss of free time (you know what I mean…not having work work versus the SAHM thing). I’m excited for you!
Wow – and Congrats! that’s awesome – can’t wait to hear all about it!
Good Luck! I’ve been a corporate dropout and came back…albeit part time. don’t regret it though. life is short – listen to your heart.
Sometimes you have to take some time to figure out what you really want to do. Congratulations! Too many people never take the chance to find out what will really make them happy.
Hats off to you. I know the decision was hard to make; decisions like these always are.
BTW, I opened a bottle of champagne and toasted to the two of us. Making big changes all at the same time. Since I live on the other coast,
you should so open a bottle too and have a drink with me.
Good for you for having the courage to make this major life change. As a fellow working mom and PR pro, I know what a heart wrenching decision this was. I’m going through the process myself (you commented on a post I wrote on my blog a while back about making the decision about switching from part-time to full time work. Yeah, not so much working out for me.).
I’m sure you will find other ways to put your considerable talents to use. This blog alone entertains and inspires many women you don’t even know. Keep it up! Am looking forward to reading your journey down this new road.
I hope we’ll be able to label you “happy” as isn’t that a goal all parents have in common whether it be for themselves, their families, life, etc.?
Be happy dammit. Or I’ll kick your ass.
If asskicking doens’t work, I’m fairly talented in the guilt absolution department too.
Sara, I know this was a hard decision for you, but I hope you will never ever feel nervous about telling other moms that you made a decision that is best for you and your family right now. Stay-at-home mom, working mom, whatever! I think too often we lump moms into these categories but fail to recognize the common denominator–motherhood! Enjoy the time with your son because once the next one comes (if you are planning on having more), life will become even more hectic. Best of luck in finding “the right balance” for all.
Congrats!! Wishing you lots of happiness on your new adventure!!
Oh, I’m so excited for you! It’s a difficult decision to have to make and somewhat of an adjustment, but I hope you find your grove in SAHMommyhod. I had my reservations with it at first, but things couldn’t be better a year later.
Welcome to my world… well, actually, our world now
Yeah! Playdates! Playdates!
GHD took the words right out of my mouth.

To me being a SAHM is both challenging and exhilarating. Enjoy it and make the most of it. It’s by far been the best time of my life!
When I heard you had big news I immediately thoguth- Baby nubmer two is on the way. This is great new too, though. Good for you!
I remember when I thought I’d never give up the consulting practice I had built–that was before I actually had kids, of course. Everythign shifts after that.
I look forward to reading about your new adventures.
BIG NEWS! I kinda thought you might go that way. It’s the right thing for you and your fam right now. That’s what all of us moms (SAHM or WOHM) should aim for. Glad you’re keeping up the blog and I’m sure you’ll have lots of new, interesting fodder.

I am so excited for you and look forward to emmulating your move. Congrats and good luck!
That’s exciting news! Now you’ll be blogging in all that “spare” time, right!
Congratulations. it’s a big step but you do what’s right for your family. I look forward to the next chapter in your book of adventures. All the best…
Congratulations! I’m a little behind in my blog reading. I have to echo the others and say that it’s about what’s best for you and your family. Also, life is fluid and just because you decide to something now, doesn’t mean that you have to do it 6 months from now.
Wow–good for you for listening to your heart and making such a big and brave decision. I am more an WAH-part-time-SAHM than a full-time-SAHM these days, but still look back on my fully-SAHM days with nostalgia. It was a great and worthy time in my and my kids’ lives…and I have no regrets. I believe that you won’t, either. Remember, you can always change things up again if something isn’t working for you.
Sara — hold your head high! And enjoy it. So many of us have considered it, or wanted to do it and haven’t been able to . . . and, just think, when you’re ready to come back, or decide to come back (you know, when the kids go to college) you will have rich experiences and memories to bring with you. I wish you the best — keep on blogging!
Hi there. I’m the Childproofer’s daughter. Just came across this site while searching around and saw my father left a message! I was inspired to do the same. I just hit my 30′s and am settling down to start a family myself soon. I really like your site and look forward to reading your blog. I’m striving towards building a successful creative business from home, and be a SAHM at the same time. As overwhelming as it seems, I’m really looking forward to it. Thanks for the inspiration! Can’t wait to read more.
