Finding Tupperware and Thomas’ Special Delivery

I have a problem.  I can never find matching lids to go with my Tupperware bottoms.  No matter how hard I try to organize, sort, and eventually replace them, I can never quite figure out how to get my Tupperware collection to fit together.

Even Thomas can’t fix this disaster.

This is kind of like how I felt playing the children’s game “Thomas and Friends: Special Delivery” with my son. (My apologies to the ladies at Brighter Minds Media for the long delay in this review.) The game, rated “E” for “Everyone” and advertised by Brighter Minds at being appropriate for a two-year-old, had me befuddled from the opening menu.

Once I figured out there was a button to tell stories and one to just play the game, I thought my son and I were in business. Until I actually started to play the game.  I’m embarassed to say I had trouble matching up James’ train tracks appropriately in the first story segment. I’m even more embarassed to say that I couldn’t figure out how to get to the next story.

My son enjoyed the colorful pictures and trains whizzing by, but I couldn’t hide my frustration with a preschool-age game. After repeating the same story countless times, and trying different combinations of sequences and story lines, I gave up.  Just like I’ve given up ever trying to have an organized Tupperware set.

Post your tips on how to help me organize my Tupperware collection, and I’ll enter you in a random drawing for the Thomas game.  Maybe you’ll have better luck than I.

Oh yes, I’ve been there with the whole lid thing. There are 2 ways I have tried to conquer this evil and not too sure which one is better, but they can both work. First, and most obviouse would be to put lids on every container and stack them by side or nest them in eachother when possible. This is good but can be a pain when looking for a certain size. 2nd, and more helpful at times is to get one of those plastic containers that you would use to put cereal in and put your lids in there. The rectangular shape keeps them all in one place and its easy to get to them. Hope that helps

We tried this game out too. My four year-old seemed to be able to whizz right through it and I couldn’t manage to get those tracks to match up quite right either.

Isn’t this the eternal kitchen problem? I have two tricks – one is to replace your shelves with pull-out drawers. They are essential to finding Tupperware in the back of the shelf and being able to access all Tupperware easily. The second is that I put all square/rectangular Tupperware on the top shelf and all circular Tupperware on the bottom shelf. That way I at least have SOME organization that allows my Tupperware to nest more efficiently. I use one bigger square Tupperware dish to hold all of the lids. I went through my Tupperware when we moved and just ditched all of the stuff that I never used. The other option would be to just remove the stuff you don’t use and repurpose it for your son’s smaller toys – cars, blocks, etc. I have found that I am quite fond of the cheap Gladware since I am always taking food to friends who have just had babies. I don’t have to worry about getting it back since a pack of 4-8 pieces is $2.50 at WalMart. The lids all nest really well, too!

Emily- amazing ideas!! Unfortunately those pull out cabinets are a fortune!! But I like the square vs. circle sorting.

We do something easy. Get one of those small plastic shoe boxes and throw all of your lids in there.

Then when you put away the tupperware, throw the lids in the box (no need to cover it). When you use the tupperware, you can easily pull out the plastic shoe box to find the matching lid. It makes it much easier to find the lids in one box than scatterred all through the cabinet.

Of course, first you need to pull everything out and match lid to tupperware.
