You know you’re pregnant and getting older when

on your birthday you …

  • Have two fattening breakfasts, because you have two good excuses (if you care to know – pancakes in bed and eggs over medium + bagel and cream cheese at a restaurant)
  • Spend the better part of your afternoon attending a school open house
  • Can’t wait for your kid to wake up from his afternoon nap so you can play with his ice cream cone set (ice cream is fake, unfortunately)
  • Would rather order in than take up your parents’ offer to go to any decent restaurant in Chicago
  • Let your kid blow out your candles AND get the first bite of your chocolate cake
  • Enjoy the bedtime routine because your son keeps serenading you with “Happy Birfday”
  • Allow your husband to watch Sunday Night Football because he has a bad cold
  • Ignore all phone calls of loving friends because your too tired to make small talk (not that I have anything that exciting to discuss anyway)
  • Sit on the computer until 10:30 at night searching for ways to economically buy maternity clothes for the next 4 months

Happy Birthday to me.

I’m 35 and thinking of getting pregnant again. I think my birthday would be exactly like yours. Happy Birthday!

Those aren’t signs of getting old. Those are signs of being a mom and pregnant with #2. I’m 37 and childless (so far) and I have never considered giving a kid the first bite of my birthday cake. But if I had a kid, at any age, yeah, the mommy love would inspire me to let the kid had the first bite.

Same thing with the preferring to eat in–you’re not too old, you’re too tired at this point in your life. When I’m 40, I’ll be where you are now, but with even less energy. When you’re 40, your kids will be older and you’ll be bounding with energy. It’s not all downhill from here!

Happy Birthday!

I mostly just find myself interested in the portions of this post that discuss food — hungry pregnant lady :)

You’re not old until someone mistakes you for your child’s grandmother. It happens, trust me.
