An Internal Monolgue Report: Conflicted

by selfmademom on May 23, 2010 · 10 comments

My internal monologue is constantly conflicted:

About whether or not I should take on more “work” right now. (Mind says yes, body says no.)

About what television I’m going to buy tomorrow. (Panasonic or Samsung?)

Wondering if it will be too much to leave my son at school for naptime because we all had a very tiring weekend. (I reaaaaalllly need him to stay.)

About how I’m going to clean up the mess that is my house during remodeling. (Hire out, I think.)

About whether or not I should call the doctor because the baby isn’t rolling over yet or if I should wait until he’s officially seven months. (Neurotic jewish mother nonsense.)

About what I should wear for above mentioned “work” meeting. (Nothing looks good in 90 degree heat.)

About if I should grow out my hair or leave it. (???!!???)

Whether or not I should waste all my babysitter hours on volunteer stuff at my son’s school or just drag the baby along. (I hate dragging the baby and I hate spending money on sitters.)

What I should do with all the memorabilia I just moved out of my parents’ house. Keep it?  Throw it out? (Who needs 5 years worth of camp letters?)

On if “boyfriend” style jeans will really look good on me. (Leaning towards no.)

Any votes? What’s your internal monologue saying now?

My internal monologue is saying I need another quart of coffee. I can barely see, my eyes are so baggy.

On the TV thing, husband would say Panasonic. Does that help?

Boyfriend jeans don’t look good on anyone. heh.

No more work – take the summer off and enjoy your boys.
TV – not my area.
Naptime – definitely have him nap there.
Hire as much cleaning help as possible and don’t think twice.
Baby is doing this at his own speed, no worries
Wear black and high heels. Always looks good. In all weather.
Have not seen new short hair. Liked headbands from last year. Wear those.
Drag baby. Use sitter time to go get pedicure or something just for you, not something mom-related.
Memorabilia – look at it one more time, smile and remember, then throw out.
Boyfriend jeans are surprisingly flattering. Wear with tank top and gladiator sandles.
Does this help?

If the work is truly enjoyable and covers the cost of a sitter, go for it. If it’s just work-work, pass it up. We have a Sharp flatscreen, but I’ve heard good things about Samsung. Let your son nap at school. Don’t worry about baby unless your gut tells you to. I like your short hair. Scan 10 the funniest camp letters and most embarrassing photos and then toss ‘em all. Post the very funniest to this here blog.

Boyfriend jeans bewilder me. I’m avoiding. But I think you have the figure for them.

Shelli- good to see you here. I got the Panasonic! The hair is terrible in this weather. And, no moolah yet for the b’friend jeans, but I’m still pondering.

We bought an LG.

Don’t worry about the baby rolling over yet. One of our girls didn’t walk until she was 14 months. Her sister started at 8 months. For 6 long months I had people telling me there was something wrong with the blond twin. It’s terrible to worry so much, even though you have a pretty good idea nothing is wrong.

My internal monologue says to stop getting my haircut so I can wear it in a ponytail all summer. The last two days cemented that decision, even though a ponytail isn’t my best look. It’s comfortable.

Wow. Alma never ceases to amaze me. I’ll just second her answers.

No, Kim, it’s just that Alma is really into taking photos of old things and then archiving them online. Just Kidding.

Mail me all of your camp letters and photos. Then I’ll scan the funniest ones, and post a few humilating ones for ya. Win-win. :)

In case you don’t know, the cost of a babysitter is tax deductible if you are doing volunteer work for a non-profit. As always, check with your tax chica or dude.

Boyfriend jeans rock.

Ha, my boy never really rolled a lot. Didn’t love being on his tummy. He’s a “matzo ball” so rolling was hard, but he sat up very early real nice.

I wouldn’t worry, although you prob do anyways. He’ll go from 0-60 in a second and you’ll be dreaming for those non-rolling days.
Mine started crawling ( also late, according to Doc) and now he’s everywhere. Just discovered Our stairs…. Yikes!
